The Cavity Wall Insulation
Self Certification scheme (CWISC) provides homeowners with the comfort of knowing that
work by registered contractors complies with the
requirements of the Building regulations. The scheme is
operated by the Cavity Insulation Guarantee Agency
(CIGA) in
association with the
British Board of Agrément
(BBA), and has
been approved by the
Department of Communities and Local
Government.
Registered installers under the scheme must comply
with detailed technical requirements and installations
are subject to regular independent inspections and
audits. A copy of the scheme rules is available
here. Shortly after completion of the work a
certificate of conformity will be forwarded by post.
This is an important document that you will require if
you move or sell your home, so should be kept in a safe
place but duplicates are available for a small charge.
Qualifying installations also
receive a CIGA independent 25 year Guarantee against
defects in materials and workmanship. To date CIGA has
issued 4m Guarantees, which, together with the
certificate of conformity with the Building Regulations provides householders with
complete peace of mind.
There is no annual or joining subscription for
installers to join CWISC and once admitted to membership
a fee is charged for each job completed under the
scheme. This fee includes provision of the CIGA
Guarantee and is currently £7.50 plus VAT for each
standard property or flat of up to 12m in height.
